If you are new to BASIC Stamp programming, we recommend beginning with the BS2 which is featured in our "What's a Microcontroller?" and Boe-Bot Robot kits.

With the BASIC Stamp^® 2p 24-Pin Module, you get the benefits of the BS2p family with lower power consumption than the BS2px (resulting in prolonged battery life for your mobile robots, etc.). The BS2p24 has a program execution speed of ~12,000 instructions/second. New I/O instructions handle parallel LCDs, Philips I2C (master), and Dallas/Maxim 1-Wire (master) communications. Recommended for customers with previous BASIC Stamp experience or a strong background in programming and electronics.

The combination of impressive processing speed, memory, and special commands really sets the BS2p on a higher level. The total number of PBASIC commands on the BS2p is now at 61 compared to 42 on the BS2-IC. These additional commands provide you with the ability to get the job done with fewer command lines, resulting in more efficient code. The 4 premier additions to the PBASIC command options are listed below:

• I2CIN and I2COUT - Allows you to use one I/O pin to communicate with I²C devices.
• LCDIN and LCDOUT - Connecting to a Parallel LCD has never been easier.
• OWIN and OWOUT -  Interface with Dallas Semiconductor 1-Wire parts.
• POLLIN, POLLOUT, POLLMODE, POLLRUN, POLLWAIT - Polled interrupt capability allows you to monitor I/O pins in between your PBASIC code.

Available in a pin-compatible format to other BS2 variants, or as a BS2p40 module (with 16 extra I/O pins!).  The BS2p24 module may be interfaced with any Parallax carrier board that includes a 24 pin socket although we highly recommend the BS2p24/40 Demo Board due to the large breadboard and special socket connections.
